not my new glasses

these were on the short list but got narrowly edged out by a similar
pair for about a quarter of the price. also i'm getting new lenses for
my current, ahem, versace, frames

coldplay pics take two

recommend. i'm not a huge fan really but damn it's a good show. even
if you hate them you can marvel at his voice, how slick the show is
musically, visually and banter-wise and how ridiculously catchy the
melodies are. (try to ignore the lyrics if possible). you probably
couldn't help yourself from enjoying the sound of 13,000 (surprisingly
tuneful) people singing 'fix you' and the tarzany bit near the end of
la vida loca. stuck in my head now to the point of irritation: 'you
thought you might be a ghost... didn't get to heaven but you made it
close...' only complaint: (and it goes out to all headline acts) how
about being a bit more generous towards support acts vis a vis your
giant video screens, especially in large venues. and i wanted to hear
warning sign but really i'm not complaining about that.

my lunch time schedule of late

movies

ghost town (chermside, couple of weeks ago): ricky gervais sees dead people. better than i thought it would be. tea is good and age appropriate. 3.5 stars.

gran torino (el dorado at indro, crap sound, don't go there): enjoyed it. had a few laughs. the ending is moving. it's a little cheesy but it's intelligent cheese. 4 stars.

slumdog millionaire (TOnight RENTed): it's pretty good but i don't know if it deserved 39 oscars. 4 stars.

the wrestler: was supposed to see that but decided to see gran torino at the last minute instead.

perl and kung fu panda

in kung fu panda, if angelina jolie (the tiger) and jackie chan (the monkey) are ruby and python, then perl is the turtle. sure, he's a bit wrinkly and might need a walking stick, but he invented that shit

this is a good primer/refresher

apologies to mad cat lady

I'm on my way somewhere and walking up park st. It's a little after
nine. I decide I'm early so I stop at a fancy looking Italian
restaurant/caffé. Looks like no benny so I order scrambled eggs. The
cashier has a thick, presumably Italian accent and needs help with the
register. I get my number (17) and sit under the giant Eiffel tower.
That's right, hadn't noticed it coming in, but there you go. Either
someone is confused or this was once a French restaurant. I make a
phone call then my eggs come. There's no chorizo like it said on the
menu, the tomato isn't the best, but the eggs are good and the bread
is good too, I guess it's toasted sour dough. The new guy takes my
number before any coffee arrives, which worries me enough that I
mention my coffee to him. But it arrived shortly after and all was
well. A couple are silently reading the papers. I can see bushfire
photo spreads. The cars really get me. Fuck. Time to go. The roman
statues holding lights strike me as ridiculous. The music sounds like
Italian Idol. Really time to go.

http://ishouldnothavesaidthat.blogspot.com/2009/01/saturday-breakfast_17.html

what i know about mad cat lady: she has too many cats, likes to spend time on the augie march forum, will spend her money to see augie march as many times as possible, rides a scooter which she crashed recently, has nice sisters, needs a new job (a bit of that going around at the moment), needs a new place to live, draws weird stuff, likes to blog, and (i hope i'm not being rude or presumptuous here) has a tendency to get drunk and into trouble.

The Middle East updates including tour dates

The band I became obsessed with late last year is called The Middle East. Yes, I am still obsessed with them. Some good news, they are back together, they've been featured on Triple J (as an Unearthed Feature Artist) on 8th of January and are touring most capital cities in February and their amazing song Blood has been released on a compilation album of unsigned bands. See here.
"...if the Arcade Fire released this song, it would’ve got a whole lot more attention than it has so far, because it’s really fucking amazing."

I've put some videos on YouTube. These are from the cd launch dvd recorded in april last year I have mentioned previously. I upload them as a fan and because I want you guys to become huge. I hope it's okay. (Rohin, let me know if you want me to take these down).

These songs are amazing. Have a listen.

Here we go:

dreamhost newsletter excerpt...

Yesterday when I was at home sick with my crazy pooping virus, I let my
dog Salt out onto our balcony where he apparently likes to take in the
cool Santa Monica breezes and smell the cars go by. Sometimes he likes
it so much, he can't be bothered to come inside and ask to go out, so he
just poops right out there.

Well, after a few minutes, he let out a couple of barks. That was sort
of weird.. he sometimes barks at cars when we're on a walk, but never
from the balcony. After another minute he barked a few more times.
Weird. Finally, when he barked again, I went out to see what this fool
dog was up about!

When I got out there, I saw, surprise, surprise, that Salt had already
done his "business" and was standing on the far side of the balcony,
facing the doorway. Well, fine. I got a paper towel and cleaned up his
mess. After I was done, Salt went back inside and promptly fell sleep.
That's when it hit me.. he had been calling for help after being TRAPPED
ON THE BALCONY BY HIS OWN POOP!

In related news, we are now using Fast CGI to process PHP everywhere,
which pretty much is just a win win win thing. There's nothing you need
to do, and whether you notice it or not, I cannot say. In fact, we'd
been doing this already as sort of a test for anybody who signed up in
the last eight months or so, but now it's UNIVERSAL!
