"no cameras please"

mumma duck actually surprised me a bit. i looked down and an angry brown thing was chasing me! she tolerated the snaps but wasn't too happy about it. she was escorting the little ones who were meandering along and finding things to eat in the grass.

also I saw the possum again today. she stays in her spot even though it's rainy. and... she has a baby! i saw it peeping out of her pouch!

know your possum (or, update on the deceased marsupial)

Is your possum the size of a small cat with big and slightly pointy ears, clever eyes, a coarser, greyish fur and a blackish tail? Brushtail. Is your possum smaller with mousy ears, sad eyes, a browner and more fluffy fur, and white or possibly bald tipped tail? In that case you have a Ringtail.

I guess Townsville possums are mainly the brushtail kind. I did not recognise the dead guy.

Now practise. Can you correctly identify these possums?

Hints: Sad eyes? Mousy ears? (It's tricky because you can't see his tail..)

Hints: Big like a cat? Black tail? Pointy ears?

Disclaimer: I am not a biologist. I spend most of my time indoors.

(Thanks Lynn.. :)
